Who is the course for?
This course is designed for people who wish to renew their full First Aid at Work qualification before it expires.


What does the course aim to do?
The course is designed to refresh your First Aid skills and up date you regarding any relevant changes in policies and procedures.


What will be covered?
The training programme will cover the following topics: Principles of First Aid and accident management. Skills updated will include: care of the unconscious casualty, latest resuscitation techniques, treatment of bleeding, burns, muscle and joint injuries and fractures. How to deal with shock, eye injuries and poisonings and will be able to recognise major illnesses eg. heart attacks and diabetic emergencies.


Additional information

Candidates are advised that in order to undertake this course your First Aid at Work Certificate must still be current. If the certificate has been allowed to lapse then a full First Aid at Work course must be undertaken. Please bring your current First Aid at Work Certificate with you to the first class, as the lecturer will need to verify this before you start your refresher course. Students will be issued with a current First Aid manual.


What are the final qualifications?
First Aid at Work Certificate (Health & Safety Executive approved). Your renewed First Aid at Work Certificate will be valid for a further 3 years.


How will I be assessed?
An examination, which combines an assessment of theoretical and practical first aid knowledge and skills will be held in the final session with 100% attendance required.


What facilities will be provided?
You will have full access to the College facilities, including the Library and Learning Resources Centre.


Will I have to study at home?
In addition to the hours spent in class background reading would be worthwhile.
